Five senses poem.

Darkness
Written by:

Darkness is a single flame embedded in my soul.
It smells like the flesh of my enemies.
It tastes like hot chilli peppers and chocolate
being mixed together in an sloppy sandwich.
It sounds like thunder in an urgent storm.
It feels like the hard, cold concrete ground of an cell.

It looks like smoke demolishing everything in its path.

Memoir

Memoir
Written by Maia Van Den Berk

                               (Real date is 11.9.10)
I heard it, the sweet sound of Abba singing Dancing Queen. It shot in my ears like a bullet being fired from a shotgun.
Then at that moment I knew I wanted to become the Dancing Queen.

Remembering the tune in my head while grabbing one of the hula skirts hanging on the hook I pulled it on. This new sense of energy ran through my veins.
I was very hyper and started to dance, then started to sing along to the lyrics. I sang, and I sang, and I sang.
“And when you get the chance, you are the Dancing Queen on the scene over the tambourine yeah yeah,
you will dance you will die, having the time of your life,
(ooh,)
see that girl watch that scene diggin the Dancing Queen, (Aaaaaaa) digging the Dancing Queen! (Aaaaaa).” While the song was playing I danced in a very crazy manner. Doing pirouettes and jumping up in the air, I was all over the place.

The song finished with a repeating ending, still echoing in my ears. Dancing Queen was stuck in my head alright but it was still my favourite song though.
“Pack up time!” shouted the teacher cheerfully. Everyone started to pack up and were fumbling around eagerly.
I put the hula skirt away on the wooden hook and felt the smooth wood on my fingertips. “Looks great everyone now time to go home, see you tomorrow!” Rachel, one of the teachers, yelled out but everyone had already gone.

“Hi mummy!” I blurted out, “Hello sweetie,” she replied with a grin. We went home and I told mum about my day, then fell into a deep sleep.

This is only a faint memory and I don’t remember it much so it's not quite that long.

Speech (Written)

At around 5 PM on the 25th of September 1955 a catastrophic disaster struck New Zealand. “Was that thunder?” a crackling sound should mean thunder right?
Well no, that was not thunder but Mt Ruapehu erupting!
“Crack!” More thunder booms in people’s ears, then the smoke comes. It begins to travel across the landscape soon followed by lava. As expected the lava demolishes bushes, forests and even wild animals.

In other words, I should probably tell you what to do and how to prepare for a volcanic eruption right? Ok then let’s get started. Family comes first so make sure to have a family plan for example; the kids will have to leave first because they are more precious  the parents.
To have them leave the town should have an escape tunnel underground or in the air like a plane or something, just in case the ground falls down. Then that way the families can escape quickly and safely.
What to pack in an emergency bag: A flashlight, spare batteries, and nonperishable food and water.

Now first things first you would want to stop the flow of lava but how?
Well let me tell you how.
To stop the flow of lava try to somehow get it to flow towards beaches so it will mix with the cool salty water in order to stop it from burning. This will help you stall more time to escape.
Personally I think that most volcanoes are in snowing areas because  their cold and it would prevent further damage. Did you know that Mt Ruapehu erupted 18 days after I was born? Well it’s true.
During the eruption ash, lava, and rocks launch out of the hole in the top, which is usually frozen from being covered with ice and snow.

After an volcano eruption listen to your nearest radio station for civil defence advice and follow instructions. Stay indoors and away from volcanic ashfall as much as possible because it might be dangerous.
Once safe to get outside make sure you check your gutters and roof for ashfall as for it can make your roof collapse. Use goggles and wear eyeglasses instead of contact lenses.
Use a dust mask or hold a damp cloth over your face to help with breathing. Make sure to stay away from downwind areas towards the volcano to avoid volcanic ash. Stay indoors until the ash has stopped falling unless there is a danger of the roof collapsing if that would be to happen get outside as quickly as possible.
Mount Ruapehu is the biggest volcano in new zealand and could be active at anytime no one knows.

If active at anytime there is a big chance of eruption so please keep safe and make sure to avoid ashfall if you are in a volcanic disaster.

Amiras Story Rewrite

Amiras story rewrite
Bombs dropping everywhere, blood, cuts tumbling down the people in Syria. Kaboom! Missiles from fighter jets were being launched from the air. “AHH!” Silence was not possible in this terrible war. Roofs were blown off people’s houses. “We should get outta here” my friend Willow said. “Ture” I tried to say but my words got lost in the wind.
“This way!”,”I think there's an underground escape route for attacks and stuff” she yelled as loud as she could.”Ok” the words finally came out. They found an escape route and went through it quickly. Once they were far away they stopped running,”I can’t believe we're in a sewer!” mouned  Willow. Muddy water splashed up their legs as they walked slowly in need of food and water “I think we might need to drink this yucky water” I said quietly. “It’s a big risk Amira we could get sick and die from it” Willow warned me but it was too late I had already taken a sip of the water and suddenly felt sick.”Why did I do that?” I asked sadly there was a hint of light not to far away “,I think the end of the tunnel is close” I said “yes very close” yelled Willow.

Everything was quiet no sounds of constant bombs blasting all over the place and even the birds were not chirping their happy song, just the silent humming of me and Willow in our small ditch in the ground just lying there looking at the sky. Once they had gotten out of the tunnel bombs went everywhere and they ran as fast as they could when soon enough fell into a flat screen T.V sized hole, and there they lay panting and gasping for air then everything went black and disappeared.

-Yawn- I woke up in something that looked like a hospital Willow was sitting beside me along with some of my friends and family like my mother, my friends:Alia,Willow,Ally,Miami, and Paris they were just standing there staring at me with worried faces. “Mother!” I yelled loudly “I missed you so much” “me too” replied mum. “The war is over” Paris bravely said “Thank god!” I cheered. Everyone was so happy it was a beautiful day the sun was shining, birds were chirping, and it seemed almost as if there were a happy christmas cheer.”Where are we?” I asked “oh where are we? We are in new zealand” Mum said “What! How did we get here?” I kept asking questions finally they answered.”Well...Willow came back and called for help then while helping us escape and then we saw a plane we waved our hand in the call for help it then landed and transported us to new  zealand we are going to the refugee camp tomorrow” Ally said kindly.

“Where's my book!” I shouted in a big panic “it's over here Amira!” my friends all shouted, they were giggling “what are you up to?” I asked suspiciously.”Catch!” Alia said to me “opps I got it first!” called Miami after playing a game of catch they finally gave me the book. “Time to go to the refugee camp” I yelled happily “lets go” mum said, everyone climbed into the bus that was pulled up beside the hospital they drove off into the early morning light. By the time they got to the refugee camp it was almost lunch time and we were extremely hungry. “Is there a canteen here?” Willow asked “yes there is young lady” a tall man wearing a worker's outfit of some sort answered her question. Later on in the years they were well off and happy again living in the refugee camp of New Zealand.

Poor people

Poor People

Help the poor end the rich don't be shy. We should take half of the rich people’s money and give it to the poor. Take the elders to old people homes, help the kids, teens and adults.
Did you know that a man made a pair of shoes out of a water bottle and string.

Some people are sleeping in cars! We should build more houses and give them to the poor. Offer jobs to the poor so that they can get more money and live a happy life.
Children are skinny and their bones are sticking out because of hunger. They have no clothes and are dying quickly.

I hope that this piece of writing encourages you to help the poor and maybe become a hero. People are dying from hunger, coldness and passing out from exhaustion. So please help the poor today and we shall suffer no more.

Swarleen and Maia

Swarleen and Maia story rewrite.

I opened my eyes to darkness. The monotone voice calmly repeated like really  annoying robot. Lazily I  turned  my  limb half awake body and stretched out my arm to turn off my frustrating alarm clock. I finally get some time off come on why do I have to wake up so early I wondered  curiously to myself. silence  deafened my ears  as i lay there.

Why is it so dead I thought mysteriously. No sounds of car engines roaring down the road. No kakapos singing sweet songs in the bushy trees nature's own alarm clock. No constant echoes of people getting ready for work. What was happening? I silently ruffled the blankets off my body like bird feathers. Cool crisp Dunedin air approached  my body as I slipped on my dressing grown. I silently drifted through the hallway like i’m going through a portal.

Reaching the end of the creaky hall way  i placed my newly papered nails onto the silky antique door knob and rotated it to the right the glare was  too much for my eyes what was going on ? A misty breeze swallowed  me and teleported me into a  white wonderland .

I am from a family that hunt for rabbits. We wonder down the stoney, dull driveway and carry our rifles looking for the fluffy, hairy creatures.

I am from a family that play video games. We play shooting games on the playstation 4 and try to beat each other and win. We play shooting games because my brother likes them. My brother wins all the time tho.

Leaf writing

Crusty leaves stay still on the silent tree. A single gust of wind blows the colourful leaf off the chipped branch of the old oak tree. It gracefully floats and dances down the the grassy field. A combination of colors like blood red and orange are drawn onto the leaf. It feels smooth like rubber as I rub the leaf between my palms. Thick waves of solid veins run across the leaf. They travel to the tips of the five pointed leaf. Long fiery sparks of bendiness rushes across the stem. I have to make sure that I don’t bend it too much because it’s fragile.
